Acquired von Willebrand syndrome develops over days and reverses fast after decannulation — worth knowing when planning a procedure, and the strongest available evidence on its time course.
Each child's own pre-ECMO and post-decannulation values

Serial von Willebrand collagen-binding-to-antigen ratio, with multimer patterns in three patients
Conference abstract only; paediatric; 23 patients; single centre. [VERIFICATION REQUIRED: whether published in full.]
18 of 23 (78 percent) had at least one collagen-binding-to-antigen ratio below 0.6; 8 (35 percent) below 0.4; 3 (13 percent) below 0.2. The ratio fell over the course of support and NORMALISED 12 to 24 hours after decannulation. Multimer loss was seen during the first 3 days. The abstract records that bleeding complications occur in 50 to 70 percent of paediatric ECMO patients and that the aetiology is poorly understood.
23 children on ECMO; 191 samples taken before support, daily to day 14, and 12 to 24 hours after decannulation
