Crack on the return side of the cannula sealed with skin adhesive (Dermabond) instead of cannula exchange.
Single case, abstract only read; durability and safety of adhesive repair unknown.
Cannula site oozed from day 9 for 13 days despite dressing changes and attempted suture repair before the crack was found. After adhesive application the site was haemostatic and cannula position stable; ECMO continued 49 more days to respiratory recovery and decannulation; discharged to rehabilitation then home.
Single case: 16-year-old with traumatic brain injury and ARDS on venovenous ECMO via bicaval dual-lumen cannula. Am Surg 2025;91(7):1132-1135.
